Here you can see the <a href="http://www.farbenmix.de/english/anna-en.pdf">Anna wrap dress from Farbenmix</a> that I made for miss Coco - I have been waiting for 3 years to make one of these, after seeing my <a href="http://nightknitter.wordpress.com/tag/anna-wrap-dress/">friend Jeanne</a> make several of these... when C asked for a dress I knew exactly what I wanted to make! I really enjoy this pattern because of the simplicity, ingenuity, and the fact that I made it one Friday morning in about 2 hours. I used <a href="http://mama-hen-jenn.blogspot.com/2011/04/sewalong-for-farbenmix-anna-four-ways.html">these directions</a> from Mama Hen Jen for making it reversible, too, which is so clever. I used some Kaffe Fassett millifiore fabric that looks like fireworks sort of, and then some amusement park fabric my mom gave me. The reverse is a yellow calico also from my mom.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/7547290056/" title="Anna wrap dress by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="Anna wrap dress" height="500" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7254/7547290056_96f95f61e7.jpg" width="333" /></a>
<br />
<div>
I have a feeling I'll be making more of these!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Speaking of making more, I also made miss Mags a first birthday outfit! I used the same Kaffe Fassett fabric (in two slightly different patterns) and some purple floral fabric from Joann's. The pants are a pattern I cut from some baby pants a few years ago and I keep making them. The topic is the<a href="http://oliverands.com/oliver-and-s-patterns/OLV-OS016IC.html"> Ice Cream Dress - in tunic form, from Oliver + S</a> - this is my third use of this pattern and I love it. I love the finishing especially, and I tend lately to gravitate towards sewing that I can do when a little overtired and overextended.</div>

</div>
<div>
<br />
And M got a birthday crown like big brother and sister, this one in purple with some of the florals from the Kaffe Fassett fabric as the 'gems'. She should be able to wear this into adulthood - unless her head is much bigger than mine :)</div>

<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/5500687743/" title="spring flower dress by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="spring flower dress" height="500" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5174/5500687743_e9dfa6c6b3.jpg" width="311" /></a><br />
<br />
I was tempted to do something in a spring green with that kind of frenchy-home dec type fabric, but after not feeling too inspired by the fabric I was finding, then while looking over my stash I found a yard or so of this Gloria Vanderbilt home dec weight tulip fabric, and felt inspired finally. The fabric was purchased at a thrift shop outside of Prescott, AZ for a dollar.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/5500689237/" title="spring flower dress by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="spring flower dress" height="333" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5019/5500689237_172c0801f1.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
I used the <a href="http://www.simplicity.com/p-5834-toddlers-childs-dresses-project-runway-collection.aspx">Simplicity Project Runway toddler dress pattern #2265</a> and found that the pattern even mirrored the tulip shapes on the fabric. It was pretty easy to make, although I still have to do button holes and sew the straps into place, which will require putting the dress on a wild 2 year old, so that may wait until the last minute. I found several cute Simplicity Project Runway dress patterns, and lucky for me Joann's was having a 5 for $5 sale on Simplicity patterns so I bought 2-3 different patterns for more fun later. I like the idea of these patterns, where they give you several different options for 'designing' the dress. The one dislike was that it was confusing to figure out yardage because they gave yardage for each possible piece. I did add a rayon lining and I'm thinking about making a <a href="http://www.simplicity.com/p-5834-toddlers-childs-dresses-project-runway-collection.aspx">tulle underskirt</a>, if I can fit it in before mid April!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/5500690637/" title="spring flower dress by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="spring flower dress" height="160" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5216/5500690637_42b43d9d37_m.jpg" width="240" /></a><br />
<br />
I used lace and some pink satin ribbon to finish the skirt, and added some of the lace on the back. I used vintage Italian buttons from my stash - they are handwash only and figured that would be okay given this dress won't be worn everyday!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/5500692273/" title="spring flower dress by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="spring flower dress" height="160" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5171/5500692273_ea022c1e11.jpg" width="240"" /></a><br />
<br />
On Sunday I turned to a new to me Oliver + S pattern, the <a href="https://oliverands.com/patterns/dresses/patterns8.phtml">Ice Cream Dress</a>, to make Coco her 2nd birthday outfit. I have enough fabric to do a coordinated variation for baby #3 (!) for the summer... let the coordinating dress planning begin, I can't resist! I used some fabric bought on sale at <a href="http://www.sewmamasew.com/">Sew Mama Sew</a>, as usual, including some of the Liberty fabric Marlyebone collection (the floral turquoise/pink). I really enjoyed sewing this dress. I have always liked Oliver + S patterns, but I think they get better with each new set released. The finishing and construction on this one is so smart and neat and elegant. It was a pleasure to sew. This is my second item from this pattern -- I also made a tunic for a friend's 2 year old a month ago... sorry to say I was still in test mode and messed up the underarms a bit on that one, but it still turned out nicely.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/5500685959/" title="ice cream dress for birthday #2 by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="ice cream dress for birthday #2" height="500" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5258/5500685959_1ec7691332.jpg" width="333" /></a><br />
<br />
The green acrylic button is from a shrunken sweater from Anthropologie - nice to give Coco her first taste of Anthro style :)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/5501280546/" title="ice cream dress for birthday #2 by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="ice cream dress for birthday #2" height="333" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5058/5501280546_35f9666281.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
Finally, I made some changes to one of AJ's old winter coats to give it a more feminine look. I used some leftover fabric to make some custom buttons and added some embroidery stitching for decoration. Makes for a vibrant version of this grey coat!<br />

A year ago, shortly after leaving New England for Arizona, I began planning a sweater for my friend Mary-Jo. Mary-Jo is almost a second mother to me, and over the past few years she has been a friend and supporter through good times and bad. She is also a<a href="http://www.maryjoshultis.com/"> professional photographer</a>, and has been very generous in taking photographs of my family and children. To thank her, I asked if she would like me to knit her a sweater!<br />
<br />
In the warmer months she spends time with her family on their boat. They often sleep on the boat while docked all around the New England coast. It was her idea to do a summery sweater that would be good for breezy times on the boat.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_Qgr2ha0HpeHGNdeIJeOd4a_kis-2EcayIvRf1GWRYjQNz9otP8r_gsvHc1QDzEsgIb0t2bJNGy3D6Ouy3U7J-Nig4adDcIO5clOWp3ATF5RivkMJ5MSMFROtvPuYXYnQT-xYFf24hxA/s1600/IMG_8317.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_Qgr2ha0HpeHGNdeIJeOd4a_kis-2EcayIvRf1GWRYjQNz9otP8r_gsvHc1QDzEsgIb0t2bJNGy3D6Ouy3U7J-Nig4adDcIO5clOWp3ATF5RivkMJ5MSMFROtvPuYXYnQT-xYFf24hxA/s320/IMG_8317.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
We settled upon the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/classic-silk-top-down-pullover">Classic Silk Top-Down Pullover</a> by Kim Barnette, and I ordered the yarn, Classic Elite Classic Silk, from <a href="http://www.yarn.com/">WEBS</a> in Northampton, MA. The yarn has just enough silk in it to be luxurious but also beachy.<br />
<br />
Well, it ended up taking me a whole year to complete the sweater! Due to many, many transitions, changing homes, sides of the country, going back to work and getting back into a routine with daycare dropoff, and I think a needed hiatus, I knit very slowly last year. I was determined to finish this sweater before 2011, and did so on New Year's Eve :) Mary-Jo is now in possession of the sweater and I'm hoping she'll send me some pictures soon! My sister Anna is my model in the photographs, it looks pretty fantastic on her! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFPqgxVSV3EM4hqT8KjBo6_zuxWrwg8PCXMfofEbePD5R5Ut1D3MtYiFeJfiI4RhS7GAYySw1pAAcPR5-paoYunWfYgGc3RsV830a-jooayxyMDMaHU80Bp8EOjjn75pq2K70htRP1b6k/s1600/IMG_8318.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFPqgxVSV3EM4hqT8KjBo6_zuxWrwg8PCXMfofEbePD5R5Ut1D3MtYiFeJfiI4RhS7GAYySw1pAAcPR5-paoYunWfYgGc3RsV830a-jooayxyMDMaHU80Bp8EOjjn75pq2K70htRP1b6k/s320/IMG_8318.JPG" width="213" /></a></div><br />
This year feels different. Already I am knitting like my old self.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15988967043686678418noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4324109922231484174.post-37346615838952165752010-11-05T19:36:00.000-07:002010-11-05T19:36:05.763-07:00Catch upO neglected blog. Amidst two busy months at work and home, I have connected with my creative side when not completely exhausted :)<br />
<br />
First, my Kids Clothes Week Challenge from way back at the end of September. Yes, I was cutting and sewing this back then, although I didn't finish until early October. I used fabric from my stash - very please with the color combination. I have been waiting to use the gold fabric, which is an old old Joann's print, for a long time. I did make a mistake which happens to me a lot these days when I sneak a few minutes of sewing here and there - cut out the fabric upside down. Fortunately it is not noticeable!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/5150278036/" title="Puppet Show Tunic by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="Puppet Show Tunic" height="333" src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1180/5150278036_8d7318e427.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/5149670835/" title="Puppet Show Tunic by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="Puppet Show Tunic" height="333" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4127/5149670835_83dc7df149.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/5150281968/" title="Puppet Show Tunic by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="Puppet Show Tunic" height="333" src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1188/5150281968_34fb115918.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
And then there's Halloween... "Super AP" -- found red clothes, belt and favorite boots from AJ's wardrobe. Red felt mask with velcro closure and red felt arm cuff with 'laser' button. Red cotton bath towel made into a cape - perfect for being a super hero every night after the bath, too!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/5149662693/" title="Super A by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="Super A" height="500" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4053/5149662693_278de2381b.jpg" width="333" /></a><br />

<br />
Now the Rose Bush. She was supposed to be an Apple Tree, but this is what happens when your Joann's is temporarily closed and you buy fleece online where they do not label the colors :) So, an improvisation. The pants, top and cape are based on Making Children's Clothes patterns, and the headband I just whipped up. I expect at least the headband, cape and possibly the dress to be worn throughout the winter.<br />
<br />

I picked out these fabrics and didn't realize how much the kids outfits would coordinate. Brown and teal. <br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/4983992232/" title="zigzag pants by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="zigzag pants" height="500" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4150/4983992232_e070d8c295.jpg" width="333" /></a><br />
<br />
Another pair of Oliver + S Sandbox pants for AJ, size 3. These are in decor-weight Nigella by Amy Butler. I love the zigzags. I tend to make crazy pants for AJ :)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/4983379119/" title="playdate dress by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="playdate dress" height="500" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4083/4983379119_cae1bac8ec.jpg" width="333" /></a><br />
And a Playdate dress, also Oliver + S, for Coco. I started this dress before going back to work in July, and it sat waiting for sleeves and pockets. I literally had 30 minutes this past week before husband and kids got home, and finished it then. I was astonished. I 'messed up' as usual by rushing to finish. The hem facing is showing, but I decided I liked it better this way, as I like the way the contrasting fabric looks lining the bottom of the dress. I used two fabric designs from the Bryant Park line, and added some dark green buttons I got at a thrift store. <br />

Coco rocked this outfit over the weekend and will wear the 18-24 month size for a while I think.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15988967043686678418noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4324109922231484174.post-60634874113616232022010-09-05T13:35:00.000-07:002010-09-05T13:35:10.329-07:00perpetual partyIt seems that we are in perpetual party mode with all the birthday parties these days! What a life to have all these special kiddos around. <br />

<br />
This weekend was the party for Miles, who looks like he could be AJ's little brother. He has a crafty mom who has made him a puppet show stage and some puppets, and I wanted to do a puppet as well. I wanted to make a gingerbread man for some reason... maybe because his mom is also into baking. With some felt and some fancy ricrac, enter the gingerbread man. <br />
<br />
I made him a '1' shirt with a nice, oversized '1'. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/4961415332/" title="sandbox pants by stellesky, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4127/4961415332_9c361cdb8a.jpg" width="333" height="500" alt="sandbox pants" /></a><br />
I made AJ two more pairs of Oliver+S Sandbox pants for the fall wardrobe... this pair is made from some Jessica Levitt Timber design, I just love the little 'helicopters' -- is that what they are called? This remind me of fall so much and will be a nice transition from summer since they are lightweight. He has taken to wearing 'day clothes' to bed and night and these pants work really well for that, too. The other pair (yet to photograph) are in some Joel Dewberry decor fabric. Very wild. I like wild pants for little boys!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15988967043686678418noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4324109922231484174.post-81113665902450739392010-08-31T06:59:00.000-07:002010-08-31T06:59:59.691-07:00Late summer sewingWell these first two are from earlier this summer. Shorts were made for AJ, and they were 'short' shorts, so I added some more fabric, and I like them even better. The skirt is the Bo Peep skirt from Anna Maria Horner's Seams To Me. Still a little big for Coco but soon enough she'll be rocking it.<br />

Bonnets aplenty<br />
<br />
This bonnet is another Kingpod pattern -- a gift for Isabelle's first birthday. I am working on a dress out of these two fabrics for Coco for the fall...<br />
<br />

<br />
This bonnet is from a 1960's coat and bonnet pattern that my aunt made for my niece when she was little. I made the bonnet for McKenna's 2nd birthday. Her mom is a mountain bike racer, so I thought the bicycle fabric was perfect!<br />

I am still sewing up a storm, and two of my latest creations are a twist on mother/daughter themed clothing... for me I made the Smashing Smock from Anna Maria Horner's <a href="http://www.annamariahorner.com/productbooks.html">Seams to Me</a>... this was a pretty easy and fun project, took me a few days to finish during naptimes and evenings. I used fabric purchased on a whim because it was on sale on <a href="http://www.sewmamasew.com/">Sew Mama Sew</a> and I liked the colors several months ago (<a href="http://www.studioefabrics.com/product_info.php?cPath=32_82_77&products_id=1242">Gabrielle in rust by Studio e Fabrics</a>), and paired it with an equally loud crazy fabric (<a href="http://www.freespiritfabric.com/core-pages/gallery.php?gal_id=264&sw_id=3390">Dolce Lilly by Tanya Whelan</a>) I bought from <a href="http://www.pinkchalkfabrics.com/">Pink Chalk Fabrics</a> when making a friend's baby sling. Orange, pink, green, purple: crazy. Just the way I like it.<br />
<br />
I think I need to do a little tweaking to this top, or wait until I stop breastfeeding :) in order for it to fit the way it is intended to, or I just need to keep working on my sewing skills. Fitting clothes for adults is a lot harder than it is for little children! I made this top in size medium, based on my measurements, but I think it would have been better a little looser on me. But if I wear the top backwards (with the button opening in front) it fits pretty great. And the v-neck opening is more flattering on me I think! Not bad for the second real item of clothing I've made for myself.<br />
<br />
Next, I added the Gabrielle fabric leftovers to the bottom of a knitted tank I made years ago for my son, which my daughter now wears, and is a little short. Now it will be a funky dress, but probably not for another year since it seems to be more a 2T-3T size. (This photo is pre-hemming!)<br />

And our JOANN’s is closed until winter because the roof collapsed last winter under all the snow, so I had to work with what I had on hand...  I never realized how much I rely on them :)<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLa6D7VSEnWB46Vo4WBRTwEgwm13qdTnpQSsdU7uj3c6TSvu4-Nlyy5OwBbJham1DQRexLDX0Td9FNx5sIRIGyhqtIFH9DjZRZcJRIfQZ7k1pPr2PmeiFIs3LAlMfkEuUyv4Zy18ak4Ro/s1600-h/IMG_7504%5B10%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="IMG_7504" border="0" alt="IMG_7504" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizQCXeBKCbM7X5939jquNHLiGxA8uWATUcuFtTIlVAuu7qIE9CMS61lKMOIg2WQ7zrLLPVRZb6T1M54E7FXF4by1zL7kgIusG7NBlnq9BmUen0PKf-RpP4VNdTN3-6kLL6LDM7s4CoygQ/?imgmax=800" width="310" height="484" /></a> </p> <p>The hardest part for me with this dress was deciding on the lining.  I didn’t want to use cotton, because I think I’ll wear this dress with tights and I don’t like to wear slips, so I chose a polyester taffeta-esque fabric from my stash in dark blue.  It makes the dress a little poofier, and the material was a pain to work with (very slippery and thin), but I think it will have the desired outcome! </p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjk_FL7QUyYq_JclvXq0PEdZbeooU46vraw65Ib6ysWz079voGFhAig3CLaLhWsCEThZFYjz9SVhNp5RMFcxarEC9hBcLHgidu8L2vCTEBkizauAl083tppovzCFsYRuvlHkLnhq3dEv54/s1600-h/IMG_7507%5B2%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="IMG_7507" border="0" alt="IMG_7507" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjw7GT09MgRsnMeZ7Q365NZieJvn-ig7jHWuf6B7BeFDWOMK_HsekafufPnpJsZBgyO_ljJzMm8W9xx1ipjjwFp0uBsiDVi8u6iCYpW8TwY6_QhYutuxh-UYmyndfHMqa0auCSWXBsPsm0/?imgmax=800" width="244" height="150" /></a></p> <p>It has been an Anna Maria Horner year for me.  I have sewed so many items from her fabrics, and now this pattern, and I have another project or two in the works from her book <a href="http://www.annamariahorner.com/productbooks.html">Seams to Me</a>.  Thank you Anna for a wonderful year, I find such inspiration and joy from your beautiful fabrics and creative ideas!!!</p> Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15988967043686678418noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4324109922231484174.post-47468332576521816462010-06-24T15:12:00.001-07:002010-06-24T19:00:26.266-07:00Midsummer Morning BonnetOddly enough, the children slept until 8 this morning. So I made myself a bonnet from 7-8. I love it!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWzBA6br5_oPELq33pZmr7BC7z6bWCgTN1spNqj-ntLQ-5HZmRxH50w_XS4TggE3k3tAZQ1QfXs-DrE8Dj6eWngdCVFSUJalqIXd_2R3c78K8SWzf3b5ORg2BXbs3eN9fnYHJ9b4NMQvM/s1600-h/IMG_7485%5B2%5D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_7485" border="0" height="164" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLA3H25VooZPu_gPc9ZCmSXgW56Ql6Q4Gh6hnZZ1B1axZ04LNs6E9QBt-LDeBwQhQJAbVuO1E9iBydwtxp5y7a9YIorXB7MZA_0sugKsCRmSbql3TqScMb6PbXupRJTAIn7gYQxwG6DIY/?imgmax=800" style="border-width: 0px; display: inline;" title="IMG_7485" width="244" /></a><br />
I admit, I picked out the fabric the night before, thinking if I had a few moments I might get started… This is some lovely <a href="http://www.dsquilts.com/fabric_and_patterns.asp?PageID=77">Denyse Schmidt County</a><a href="http://www.dsquilts.com/fabric_and_patterns.asp?PageID=77"> Fair </a>decorator weight fabric that I got from <a href="http://www.sewmamasew.com/">Sew Mama Sew</a> a while back, with some stretchy combed cotton for lining from a shirt I tried to make myself several years ago without any luck. The ribbon is a very soft grosgrain in light grey with a thin white stripe on each side. I have had this ribbon hanging around forever, picked up at some thrift shop, waiting for the right project. I love the way it looks with this fabric, and it is very soft against my skin. <br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9ub_JTviGhUhOkbu4kYlK38Q47pgkDioi8x7gR3y9ODxonf2NkKzqiOxAxBDX2C2SPjgHmAWbU10yB-PZ0vCkdHBTid__CjqeQYxk6-W4Fqa4aaWxK-LdeAz5PiFF-LuHqG8l-g100gU/s1600-h/IMG_7477%5B2%5D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_7477" border="0" height="164" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyrNv88u7ohFS2SjUlRrjX7xf_c4uLLXIHMXnZlsEV73Rxt649Ztow3j5xuiG9fzjfLMNA4YL3Fs_6P9M5bTg8B6I5swmFaWvOfsCUqIs1klYsOvx4KamPwaEwAfhfmWFyidSo7Vnal-4/?imgmax=800" style="border-width: 0px; display: inline;" title="IMG_7477" width="244" /></a><br />
I think I’ve now made about 8 bonnets from this great pattern I purchased from <a href="http://www.kingpod.com/">Amy Karol</a>, totally totally worth every cent. This is the first one in the Adult size that I have made. I think I might try making the brim a little deeper next time, for more sun shading, I need that here in the desert mountains!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_uNX52FrXFue3QwGOtvU3FezHHOOJGMGNPw3phJLZVyUhxNYdV4Y-w7fNkiY9xxVjRnAlJ9sZfj5CCi3eDwureJaY6hUy0PmSqn_9omNAiGjjSgM2u-wNdNDm55eSRAcIB7TgPvD7jLI/s1600-h/IMG_7475%5B2%5D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_7475" border="0" height="164" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJQd4pAO7HsHRzS14V48jkG0GVkxZ384KDUcgEXweGw3dtTZ_w33gPxEHFb4lX1wSxVo5f1aFn8QtSCYGslO7Cg-f0_yNayIPO7RFl994NtZ5Q9QRl-RKAANUw1M1iBW_ZO8f_Jx9WyeA/?imgmax=800" style="border-width: 0px; display: inline;" title="IMG_7475" width="244" /></a> <br />
Nothing like a bonnet for a Midsummer day – I am reminded of an old folksy song on the Nields’ kids CD <a href="http://www.nields.com/radran.html">Rock All Day Rock All Night</a>,<br />
Put on your old grey bonnet <br />
With blue ribbons on it, <br />
And we'll hitch old dobbin to the shay, <br />
Over fields of clover <br />
We will drive to Dover <br />
On our golden wedding day.<br />

Lately I have been feeling like my own Babies to Kids with all the variety of handmade gifts I've been making... what fun! Here's a look at some of the special gifts I've been making for all my new special friends here in Flagstaff ...<br />
<br />
Race Track Pack ~ a pouch for storing race cars that unrolls and has a 'race track' on one side of the pouch. This was made for one of AJ's friend's birthdays, and it is a prototype. I really like the idea of this!<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/4656861767/" title="race track pack by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="race track pack" height="200" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4018/4656861767_bfd052c791.jpg" width="133" /></a><br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/4656863833/" title="race track pack by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="race track pack" height="133" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4045/4656863833_a6d9e912b0_b.jpg" width="200" /></a><br />
Girlie Apron ~ made for one of AJ's spit-fire friends. She isn't exactly a girlie-girl, but her mom tells me she enjoys twirling in this one. I was going for retro 50's poodle-skirt style... note the vintage kitty-cat ribbon!<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/4678277935/" title="Isabella's apron by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="Isabella's apron" height="200" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4022/4678277935_022b48d425.jpg" width="133" /></a><br />
Driving blanket - a splurge of a yard of this fabric from the local sewing shop. I love it! I made it in an afternoon, and backed it with some Denyse Schmidt decor weight fabric I bought on sale from Sew Mama Sew...<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/4678286189/" title="aj and his car/train quilt by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="aj and his car/train quilt" height="133" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4007/4678286189_7bc827afd3.jpg" width="200" /></a><br />
Birthday crown ~ made for AJ from leftover decor fabric from his curtains my mom made him when he was born, and I used Anna Maria Horner fabric for the gems... perfect! It has velcro on the back and should fit him for years -- it fits me, when I need to feel like the queen :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh11wZmuAxyv2m52uzw6YyrVZ1l_R-hXxtOcwlm9H9Mv7rP94n4Vf7k8TluflOSJYQ5Ed_86rXbXW5MQqC_jCh_7LyCbBiZbSt679f0tUKbbng47CgTYQri2SAgkpDbIDZ6lmDbaYS-Hn8/s1600/IMG_7304.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="133" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh11wZmuAxyv2m52uzw6YyrVZ1l_R-hXxtOcwlm9H9Mv7rP94n4Vf7k8TluflOSJYQ5Ed_86rXbXW5MQqC_jCh_7LyCbBiZbSt679f0tUKbbng47CgTYQri2SAgkpDbIDZ6lmDbaYS-Hn8/s200/IMG_7304.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Mommy(or Daddy) and Me slings! ~ Made for Beth, the owner of our local <a href="http://classes.strollerstrides.net/flagstaff/location/index.aspx">Stroller Strides</a>.<br />
She literally cheered us on at a 10K over the weekend then delivered her baby that night, no big deal :) The sling is the first I've made, at her request, and I used a couple of patterns for guides -- <a href="http://www.mayawrap.com/n_sewsling.php">Maya wraps</a> website and <a href="http://www.sleepingbaby.net/jan/Baby/">Jan Andrea's patterns</a>. I struggled with the fabric choice at first. I wanted something funky and colorful, but I was worried it would be too pink (Beth didn't know whether she was having a girl/boy). I had purchased the polka dot fabric (Jennifer Paganelli I think) online and then found the nice lily/blueish fabric from the local sewing shop (Beth's oldest is named Lily). I made sure to sew a billion extra rows of stitches to keep this sling secure, and used crazy stitch patterns to make it look nice... Got the pink ring from an Arizona company, <a href="http://www.slingrings.com/">Sling Rings!</a> And even Beth's husband can rock this sling, look at that tiny baby!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0RhsY6YoVrrnp-PyIIV6ENmDDpF7GybxOSYAmskN0WmqcQbV7ImytpHDo4C_HYLVTGgie7rmaL-IGUZImpXq6pfmgygu2QwGpEyIx1CcAJQFmFmSe6yxBXIQhYZw42tj-dite_3FjqtU/s1600/amelia.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0RhsY6YoVrrnp-PyIIV6ENmDDpF7GybxOSYAmskN0WmqcQbV7ImytpHDo4C_HYLVTGgie7rmaL-IGUZImpXq6pfmgygu2QwGpEyIx1CcAJQFmFmSe6yxBXIQhYZw42tj-dite_3FjqtU/s200/amelia.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I had planned from the start to make big sister Lily her own sling to match, and here she is with her doll -- I just made a pocket sling and measured it on AJ to make sure it would fit. She looks GREAT in it! (and I had to try it on myself, too...)<br />

Here are some odds n ends....<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/4578748503/" title="melman pants by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="melman pants" height="500" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4041/4578748503_8480796bf3.jpg" width="326" /></a><br />
First, some pants for AJ. I used the Elasticated Pants pattern from Making Children's Clothes for these, and some giraffe (or Melman if you're familiar with Madagascar) fabric from Michael Miller. Love these! Nice and lightweight for the breezy 60-70's we're getting here in late spring. And they can be PJ pants too. Note the real underwear instead of a diaper... we are making progress in other ways here!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/4579378992/" title="quilt blocks by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="quilt blocks" height="333" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4012/4579378992_96c85cc43c.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
And I started a kind of quilt-in at my house over the weekend. I have a lot of scraps and decided to make some quilt blocks to use them up. I am still thinking about the end result -- maybe a quilt for Coco since these fabrics are from many of the clothes I have made her, and it will be a nice memento of her early childhood. I may do some Sunbonnet Sue blocks to go with. Or I might make quilted purses/project bags out of them... I have a quilted bag my mom made and I love it. We shall see... in the meantime, I just love the gratification of cutting triangles and randomly sewing them together to make blocks -- so beautiful to look at too!!!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15988967043686678418noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4324109922231484174.post-8814154035947698802010-04-12T07:58:00.000-07:002010-04-12T07:58:40.170-07:00'Sewing for my sanity'A friend of mine had the phrase 'sewing for my sanity' for her <a href="http://sewingthroughlifesimperfections.blogspot.com/">sewing blog</a>, and I kept thinking of it all weekend long. Between sick children, potty training, night feeding, doctor's visits, and just general spring haywire-ness, I have definitely been turning to my sewing machine for my sanity. And I am pleased to report that several lovely items have resulted from this therapy...<br />
<br />
Toile Love<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/4514278361/" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="toile tunic by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="toile tunic" height="213" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2077/4514278361_5ce8056069.jpg" width="320" /></a>I have finally cut and sewn with my Anna Maria Horner Good Folks Toile. It is a bit tricky to work with at first because it is like AIR, or as Anna Maria Horner put it, like BUTTER, but boy, the results are wonderful. I turned first to a favorite pattern from Oliver + S -- the <a href="http://www.oliverands.com/patterns/skirts/patterns3a.phtml">Swingset Tunic</a>. I have already made Coco <a href="http://stellesky.blogspot.com/2009/08/getting-hang-of-things-here.html">two</a> of <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/3828616216/">these</a>, and now she has a Toile version. Every time I make this I feel like I perfect my sewing techniques a little more. But that is true of all the Oliver + S patterns, they are so educational!<br />

I've seen several nice scarfs out of this fabric, and I am pleased with mine, except I may redo the edging - some thrifted home decor tassels -- I sewed it flat, but I might try and sew the edging on in a circle, making the scarf just a tube. Seems like it might be lighter...<br />
<br />
Little things<br />
I have a knitting project ready for finishing that I can't share yet... but I am so far very happy with the results! Knit most often while watching episodes of Northern Exposure. Love that show :)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/4514286137/" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="ella's bonnet by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="ella's bonnet" height="213" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2738/4514286137_7f038c001a.jpg" width="320" /></a>And I just finished another <a href="http://blancheandestelle.blogspot.com/2010/03/bonnet-season.html">Kingpod bonnet</a>, in the Baby size, for a friend's baby we'll be meeting in Phoenix later this week. I used some nice Japanese sunflower fabric from our local sew/vac Odegaard's. It is so sunny and lovely, and I thought this little chica needed something sunny since she is only visiting Phoenix and is actually from Anchorage Alaska! <br />

She declared that she needed a mitt for each hand. Nothing like getting good feedback, and since I had some leftover fabric, I got right on that and even added her initial to this one!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15988967043686678418noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4324109922231484174.post-60795954386218575672010-04-07T14:57:00.000-07:002010-04-07T14:59:52.987-07:00We are ONE!Miss Coco turned 1 this week, and we had a small tea party for her with some of our new friends. It was a lot of fun! There were as usual a few handmade items to celebrate the day, some made by me and some made by my very talented mother in law. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/4499866533/" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="birthday cupcake! by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="birthday cupcake!" height="213" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4050/4499866533_f9f9716fe5.jpg" width="320" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/4500503492/" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="C's bday tea by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="C's bday tea" height="320" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4033/4500503492_4003e20ba3.jpg" width="213" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/4499855977/" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="birthday banner by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="birthday banner" height="213" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4052/4499855977_aa6255d7e7.jpg" width="320" /></a>I whipped up a birthday banner out of some scraps of cotton to use for all of our family celebrations. Coco's name was made with leftover scraps from the skirt she wore, a <a href="http://www.oliverands.com/blog/2008/08/lazy-days-skirt-free-pattern.html">Lazy Days skirt</a> in some of my favorite <a href="http://heatherbailey.typepad.com/heather_bailey/2006/09/freshcut.html">Heather Bailey Freshcut</a> fabric (purchased while pregnant, <a href="http://stellesky.blogspot.com/2009/08/getting-hang-of-things-here.html">made the skirt</a> while home with an infant, and now at a year I think it will fit her for at least another year...). And made her a crown that should fit her even as an adult (it fits me, for when I need to feel like a queen I guess). <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/4499854329/" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="one year old shirt by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="one year old shirt" height="213" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2678/4499854329_7855310035.jpg" width="320" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/4500487618/" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="annie! by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="annie!" height="213" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4068/4500487618_cd43b61dd4.jpg" width="320" /></a>She also wore her new '1' t-shirt appliqued by Grandma. And she received her very own handmade Raggedy Ann doll, made by Grandma, and she came complete with a dress to match Coco's Easter dress. Grandma also sent me the dress pattern for Annie so I can make more matching dresses, I am excited about that!<br />
<br />
Happy Birthday to a wonderful girl, who has brought much delight to us through the ups and downs of this exciting year~Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15988967043686678418noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4324109922231484174.post-85122831850119504192010-04-05T08:05:00.000-07:002010-04-05T08:05:12.297-07:00Easter AgainWell, we had a good Easter in our new town out here in the West. Lucky Coco has had TWO Easters before turning 1! This year she was much more involved in the activities. Despite some mood issues, some wind and a slight chill in the air, the day was very nice. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/4491953258/" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="IMG_7037 by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_7037" height="320" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4056/4491953258_5a67ce22dd.jpg" width="213" /></a><br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/4491327785/" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="IMG_7051 by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_7051" height="213" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4061/4491327785_e2e9f15261_b.jpg" width="320" /></a><br />
Coco wore her Easter/Birthday dress today. Again, the dress is the Oliver + S Bubble pattern, size 12-18 months, so it will fit through the summer hopefully. The <a href="http://blancheandestelle.blogspot.com/2010/03/bonnet-season.html">bonnet</a> is Amy Karol's design, in matching Anna Maria Horner Garden Party green. She rocked the dress, and in the cold air both kids wore there new 'sweatjacks' -- hooded sweatshirts from the Target clearance rack with initials and decorations (a flower, a rocket ship) appliqued for interest. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/4491331899/" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="IMG_7069 by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_7069" height="213" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4024/4491331899_c0c0f012f5.jpg" width="320" /></a>While playing in the afternoon, I had time to work on another special item for Coco's birthday -- a birthday banner. I've seen the ones Amanda Blake Soule has made for her children in her book <a href="http://www.soulemama.com/the_creative_family/">The Creative Family</a> and have always thought these were great decorations. And reusable! I finished the fabric painting today. Now to finish the part that says 'happy birthday'. I am going to put the part that says 'coral' up in her room after her party.<br />
<br />
Lately I have a ton of little special crafty things going, just the way I like it!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15988967043686678418noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4324109922231484174.post-88461640510671877272010-03-29T13:50:00.000-07:002010-03-29T13:52:27.197-07:00Bonnet Season<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/4473656890/" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="kingpod bonnet by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="kingpod bonnet" height="213" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2682/4473656890_74367c1272_b.jpg" width="320" /></a><br />
Yesterday I made a bonnet to go with Coco's new Easter/ Birthday dress... and IT WAS SO MUCH FUN. I used the <a href="http://www.kingpod.com/?page=bonnet_pattern.php">Kingpod Bonnet pattern</a> by Amy Karol. Let me tell you, it was the best $8 impluse buy I've had in a while. The pattern is wonderful -- very easy to follow but not too detailed, and leaves room for much creativity. This pattern will be great for all the other bonnets I am now dreaming up for family and friends of all ages since the pattern has three sizes - baby, child and adult. <br />
<br />
I used the same Anna Maria Horner Garden Party fabric for this bonnet that I got from <a href="http://www.sewmamasew.com/">Sew Mama Sew</a>. I just love this fabric - the more I work with it the more detail I am picking up with the pattern. I added some vintage cream and lavendar lace for decoration, and then this stretchy tulle that my mom gave me from a pair of her socks that wore out. I was wondering what in the world I would do with this stuff, and then realized it would be the perfect straps for the bonnet - soft, stretchy, flouncy -- perfect for an Easter bonnet with frills upon it!<br />
<br />
And this project was fast -- altogether with cutting pressing and sewing maybe an hour. This 'topped' off my weekend very nicely with something tangible and lovely completed, amidst all the unfinished projects and the major tasks of parenting two little kids. I love how being creative can bring such much-needed joy!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15988967043686678418noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4324109922231484174.post-50894901871617503302010-03-11T19:51:00.000-08:002010-03-11T19:51:53.243-08:00Groovy Couture<div style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="IMG_6876" height="320" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2686/4425712275_748005364f_b.jpg" width="213" /></div>It has been one of those weeks where I have been ready to pull my hair out. So today when both kids were actually asleep at the same time, and I should have been too, I finally got to make something I've been wanting to make for weeks -- a dolly dress. From start to finish this took about 45 minutes, including pattern design, cutting, sewing, and fitting. Then Coco woke up. I did the final thread trimming in the afternoon.<br />
<br />
This doll is a <a href="http://www.manhattantoy.com/category/159423/Groovy_Girls">Groovy Girl</a> doll. My mother-in-law introduced me to these cuties. She picks them up secondhand and has a drawer full of them! I found my first one at Goodwill about a month ago. Her name is Kelsey, according to her tag. Her outfit was a dreadful cheerleader thing, didn't fit well. So I decided to make her a dress to match Coco's soon-to-be-made Easter/birthday dress (hint: this is the fabric for the dress! <a href="http://www.annamariahorner.com/">Anna Maria Horner</a> thankyou). <br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/4426475120/" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="IMG_6875 by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_6875" height="320" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4049/4426475120_a1e699741c.jpg" width="213" /></a><br />
<br />
I forgot how much fun and satisfying it is to make a doll dress. Really it makes me a little too happy with myself. I have a feeling she and Coco may be matching more often...<br />

Partially due to travel, partially due to sick kids, and mostly due to the fact that I have about ten projects that I'm getting going right now. Something about the snow here is making me want to just sit around and plan projects and order fabric (which I have been doing and I have to stop now!!!) Here is where some of my inspiration is settling right now:<br />
<br />
Finally getting some of Anna Maria Horner's <a href="http://www.sewmamasew.com/store/ecom-catshow/DSAHORNER.html">voile</a>! I am hoping to make <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/annamariahorner/4420109674/in/photostream/">this dress</a> for myself. I haven't made myself a dress in many years, but think I could use a sewing project that I will directly benefit from. <br />
<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">I'm making aprons, hopefully some to sell, some to gift. I'm having fun with the fabric for this!</div><br />
I just cut out Coco's Easter/birthday dress with the Oliver + S bubble dress pattern. I'm awaiting some lining fabric before I start sewing this!<br />
<br />
I'm planning a sweater project for a dear family friend who has been extra supportive to me over the past year. She is also a fantastic photographer. We're planning something appropriate for use while on her boat in the summer, but also a four-season sweater. Something kind of beachy but classic. Probably something from <a href="http://www.classiceliteyarns.com/pattern_detail.php?patternID=18">Classic Elite's Boathouse</a> pattern book.<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">And I have started a February baby sweater... hopefully to be gifted in April. I decided Coco has enough sweaters for now, at least until next winter.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><br />
I am also thinking about Easter baskets. I picked up some baskets at Goodwill over the weekend in Phoenix. I might make a matching doll dress for Coco's basket, and I'm thinking a dog theme for AJ. We'll see how much energy I have for these....<br />
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhom9yQjT-W4xogIx_rfg_sWvVsDkQOallNivwWsL0ynlmSVyO6TyLwWb424kMcNmhnDsW4O3sJoPJaKy5MhaBAkyKK7nrN9D240cW1dvHwX5i34SmOlBG0w8pmG1QxKdP9Q23ob7NjLog/s1600-h/IMG_6865+(1024x683).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhom9yQjT-W4xogIx_rfg_sWvVsDkQOallNivwWsL0ynlmSVyO6TyLwWb424kMcNmhnDsW4O3sJoPJaKy5MhaBAkyKK7nrN9D240cW1dvHwX5i34SmOlBG0w8pmG1QxKdP9Q23ob7NjLog/s320/IMG_6865+(1024x683).jpg" vt="true" width="320" /></a></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15988967043686678418noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4324109922231484174.post-22471989273319323632010-03-03T07:54:00.000-08:002010-03-03T08:14:49.504-08:00Kid Chef Kit for LUNAFEST<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVZ02-cuv1q7IwMg25XdiaFhFRndT7l_4qKEXmWbK57g4OuAS92YyFJoXA510TzpUYKTzY62WF0bFpYrGzvAr8ET0HzMQ-OE0jkfqPxCyy-OOW1Z5gIX_FCWB6pcY_noldoJC_XOmN4n0/s1600-h/kid_chef_kit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="cssfloat: left; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" kt="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVZ02-cuv1q7IwMg25XdiaFhFRndT7l_4qKEXmWbK57g4OuAS92YyFJoXA510TzpUYKTzY62WF0bFpYrGzvAr8ET0HzMQ-OE0jkfqPxCyy-OOW1Z5gIX_FCWB6pcY_noldoJC_XOmN4n0/s320/kid_chef_kit.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>I am excited to share a preview of the basket I'm donating to the <a href="http://www.lunafestflagstaff.blogspot.com/">LUNAFEST</a> film festival happening this Saturday, 2/6, in Flagstaff. Thanks to Beth of <a href="http://strollerstridesflagstaff.wordpress.com/">Stroller Strides</a> Flagstaff for putting this together, I am thrilled to make this donation!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15988967043686678418noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4324109922231484174.post-20421813578306218942010-02-27T19:35:00.000-08:002010-02-27T19:35:24.720-08:00I'm a February Lady<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/4393247478/" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="February Lady by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="February Lady" height="213" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4070/4393247478_3d896c3dbe.jpg" width="320" /></a>I did it! I managed to finish my <a href="http://www.flintknits.com/blog/?p=151">February Lady sweater</a> before the end of February! I began knitting this sweater in the car even before crossing out of the Connecticut border on our cross country drive to our new home in Arizona. I <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/4291560424/in/set-72157623126260883/">knit all through the trip</a>, and then in the evenings and on car rides over the past two months since arriving. I set a goal of completing it by the end of February, and by the end of the Olympics (even though I did not participate in the knitting Olympics this time around). Hooray! I have achieved a goal!</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><br />
<br />
I put the sweater on this morning and I'm glad I decided to wait on buttons (I made room for three), and instead used my <a href="http://www.lesliewind.com/shawl.htm">shawl pin</a> and I think I'm going to leave it buttonless for a while. Shawl pins give a lot of versatility. I love mine. I can move the pin down to the tummy area if I'm feeling a little sensitive about the remaining post baby pouch. <br />
<br />
The best moment came at the end of breakfast at a local restaurant today, when we were getting ready to leave, a woman walking by with her toddler stopped me and said 'Nice February Lady!' Boy that made my day. I love the knitting world. <br />
<br />
Now I have to decide if I'm going to make the original February sweater from EZ's <a href="http://store.doverpublications.com/0486241785.html">Knitter's Almanac</a> for Miss Coco. I have some yarn... we'll see what happens :) <br />
<br />

<br />
I really like the fit of the sweater so far, but I am glad to be done with the knitting. There are so many varied memories knit into this one, the excitement of the move, the frustrations of living in a hotel, the struggles of getting settled, the joy of feeling at home in a new place. I think this means a new chapter is beginning. Glad to be closing this February. Hello spring, are you out there somewhere?Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15988967043686678418noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4324109922231484174.post-76284804805355597102010-02-26T15:40:00.000-08:002010-02-26T15:51:40.023-08:00Toddler Play Pot HolderWhat would a toddler apron be without a play pot holder to go along with it?!? I took one of my oven mitt pot holders and modified it to make a simple kid's mitt. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/4390287965/" title="toddler play oven mitt by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="toddler play oven mitt" height="160" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4046/4390287965_3eb50c947f_m.jpg" width="240" /></a><br />
<br />
I took some muslin to line the mitt, and then added a little scrap quilt batting and quilted some leftover Joel Dewberry Ginseng fabric to match the <a href="http://blancheandestelle.blogspot.com/2010/02/making-childrens-clothes-apron.html">apron</a> I made last week. A very quick project that will no doubt bring tons of fun play. <br />

These were a <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/66022450/in/set-560125/">project</a> almost five years ago with some Koigu wool I got at <a href="http://www.patternworks.com/">Patternworks</a> in New Hampshire. I love these legwarmers. I think they fit her a little better than they fit me! <br />
Next post will be on knitting -- I have completed the knitting portion of my latest <a href="http://www.flintknits.com/blog/?p=151">sweater project</a>, and now just need to block and weave in ends before I debut it here :)Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15988967043686678418noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4324109922231484174.post-8615744628002450672010-02-20T18:17:00.000-08:002010-02-20T18:17:15.741-08:00Black and white apron is ready to rolllllWell I've made another apron! This one is more of an apron/smock. And this one is for AJ. He has one like this that he uses when he is painting and doing artwork. I liked the design and decided to try copying the pattern. I am proud of the results! I made my design reversible, with pockets on one side. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/estellep/4373877387/" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="boyish apron by stellesky, on Flickr"><img alt="boyish apron" height="320" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4067/4373877387_61388cd751_b.jpg" width="213" /></a><br />
I decided to do this apron in black and white because of the current <a href="http://angrychicken.typepad.com/tieoneon/">Tie One On</a> that Amy Karol is hosting. Black and white was good inspiration for a little boy apron/smock. I found some really nice fabric at the local sewing shop (<a href="http://www.odegaards.com/">Odegaard's</a>), and knew I wanted some checker fabric plus something else. I was thinking cool skater/punk/California style with the checker fabric. I think a guy had a checker hat with graffiti designs on it during an episode of Entourage I watched recently, and that stuck with me. Then I found some batik-looking fabric in black that has a subtle tree bark/tire track look. Perfect -- added a car/road theme! <br />
<br />
I think this will be a great all purpose apron and smock for any baking or art that AJ wants to do, and he should fit into it for at least a year or two I think. And I will definitely be using this 'pattern' again.<br />
<br />

The original apron I based the pattern on....<br />
